Helping Children and Teens Build Confidence and Resilience
Brookside Anxiety & Mental Health partners closely with parents to support their child’s development, confidence, and mental well-being.
Personalized, Collaborative Child and Teen Therapy That Empowers Families
It is never too early to benefit from cognitive-behavioral strategies. Therapy with children and adolescents requires a provider with training in child development and who understands the importance of family and school environments. Anxiety can be developmentally normative. However, when it creates problems or is particularly distressing, it is time to learn skills and parenting strategies to help manage it.
While we bring clinical and developmental knowledge, you are the expert on your child. Parents are highly involved in a collaborative therapy process, and with very young children sessions may be primarily parent-coaching. We work to help parents feel ready and able to coach, advocate, and support their child.
Tweens and adolescents often benefit from space to discuss thoughts and feelings without parents present, which we are happy to provide. With that said, parents continue to be highly involved, with most sessions including a parent check-in. We always keep parents informed about treatment strategies and progress.
We routinely collaborate with schools and other providers to provide the best possible comprehensive care. Let’s create a team of people working together to help your child thrive.
A Thoughtful, Structured Approach to Child and Teen Therapy in Kansas City
Each child and teen begins with a 90-minute structured intake evaluation using standardized assessment tools. This comprehensive assessment helps us form an accurate diagnosis and create a personalized treatment plan tailored to your child’s needs.
Following a functional analysis of the presenting concerns, our therapists work collaboratively with families to design a treatment approach that integrates your goals, preferences, and our clinical expertise. We draw from evidence-based methods such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and family systems approaches to build coping skills, emotional awareness, and problem-solving strategies.
Therapy sessions typically last 45–50 minutes, though extended sessions of 60–85 minutes may be recommended depending on treatment goals. Most clients benefit from weekly sessions early on to develop insight and learn new skills, transitioning to less frequent sessions as progress is maintained. The average course of therapy ranges from 12–20 sessions, but treatment is always personalized to meet your child’s unique needs and pace.
We also offer booster sessions and periodic check-ins after active treatment ends to support continued success and adjustment.
If you’re seeking compassionate, evidence-based child or teen counseling in Kansas City, Brookside Anxiety & Mental Health provides a supportive environment where young people can heal, grow, and thrive.
